Sermorelin tablets, nasal spray and sublingual vs injection

Sermorelin oral tablets, sublingual and nasal forms vs injection: what the human studies tested, what programs sell and what is unproven. Checked 2 Nov 2026.

By Julian Caraulani · Updated November 2, 2026

Sermorelin is sold as an injection and, at one tracked program, as a dissolving tablet; we found no human trial of the tablet. The published studies used injections, plus intranasal GHRH analog work from the 1980s. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. The cheapest tracked sermorelin plan is Idun Rx at $94 a month.

This page covers how each form differs on evidence and legal footing. We do not publish doses or how to use any form; a prescriber decides that. For the basics, see our sermorelin guide.

What programs actually sell

Most tracked programs sell sermorelin as an injection. System Labs is the one we track that also sells an oral form. Its page says the tablet "dissolves under your tongue and absorbs through the sublingual membrane" and tells patients "Do not chew or swallow" (System Labs, read 2 Nov 2026). So the tablet is sublingual, not a swallowed pill. The same page says the "peptide medications and therapies offered have not been approved by the FDA" and that it is "Compounded by a certified U.S. pharmacy" (read 2 Nov 2026). It cites no clinical study of the tablet.

We found no tracked program selling a sermorelin nasal spray. Sellers of sprays online are often research-labeled vendors, which this site does not cover; see research vs prescription peptides.

What the human studies tested

Sermorelin's regulatory and clinical record was built on injections. A drug review describes "Intravenous and subcutaneous sermorelin" stimulating growth hormone release, and subcutaneous use in children with growth hormone deficiency (Prakash and Goa, PubMed 18031173). The small adult trials we summarize in sermorelin benefits also used injections.

The nearest evidence for a non-injected route is old and uses relatives of sermorelin, not the compounded product:

Study Form tested What it found
PubMed 3096623 (1986) A 29 amino acid GHRH analog, [Nle27]GHRH(1-29)-NH2, in normal men Growth hormone rose by intravenous, subcutaneous and intranasal routes. "A thirtyfold higher intranasal than intravenous dose was required to stimulate approximately one fifth the amount of GH release"
PubMed 2877535 (1987) GRF 1-29-NH2 insufflated into the nose in five short children A prompt rise in growth hormone; "burning of the nasal mucosa" in one patient

Read these carefully. They show a nasal route can raise growth hormone in a lab setting, at much higher amounts than injection. They do not show a commercial nasal spray works, and the second study had five children. Neither tested a sublingual tablet. No study we found measured how much sermorelin reaches the blood from a sublingual tablet.

Why peptides are hard to take by mouth

Peptide drugs are chains of amino acids, and digestion is built to break those down. That is general pharmacology and is why most approved peptide drugs are injected. HHS applies the same worry to oral peptides in its interim policy for six other peptides: compounders are "expected to maintain documentation confirming that the specific formulation provided to a patient achieves an adequate level of oral bioavailability in humans" (HHS policy). Sermorelin is not one of those six, but the concern is the same: absorption must be shown, not assumed. See oral vs injection BPC-157 for that case.

Legal footing

Sermorelin has no FDA-approved product today, and compounding pharmacies make it on a prescription; see sermorelin FDA status. FDA's status for the compound does not depend on the form, but evidence for each form does. A tablet or spray is a different formulation from the injections that were studied.

Price: is the tablet cheaper?

At System Labs the tablet lists below the injection each month, but the first-month discounts differ and a lower price is not proof of equal effect. Compare current plans on the sermorelin price page and in how much sermorelin costs.

How to decide

  • You want the form with the most evidence: injection. Your prescriber chooses the amount and schedule; we publish none.
  • You dislike needles: ask a clinician what evidence exists for the specific tablet and how the pharmacy tests it.
  • You see a nasal spray: ask who the pharmacy is and whether a prescription is required. If neither, walk away.

FAQ

Does oral sermorelin work?

Unproven. We found no published human trial of a sermorelin tablet, and System Labs cites none for its tablet. Peptides are usually injected because digestion breaks them down. A lower price or a confident product page does not show the tablet raises growth hormone like an injection does.

Is sublingual sermorelin as effective as injections?

No evidence says so. The studies that established sermorelin used intravenous and subcutaneous routes. The sublingual tablet is a different formulation, and we found no study comparing blood levels or growth hormone response between the tablet and an injection.

Is there a sermorelin nasal spray?

Early research tested intranasal GHRH analogs, and they raised growth hormone but needed far higher amounts than injection (PubMed 3096623). We track no licensed program selling a sermorelin nasal spray, and sprays sold online are often research-labeled vendors.

Are sermorelin tablets legal?

Pharmacies can compound sermorelin on a prescription, but no sermorelin product is FDA-approved, and compounded drugs are not reviewed by FDA for safety or effectiveness. Whether a given tablet is legal in your state depends on the pharmacy and prescriber. Check the pharmacy's license.

Which form of sermorelin is cheapest?

At the one program we track that lists both, the tablet is priced below the injection each month. The cheapest sermorelin plan overall is Idun Rx at $94 a month, and it is an injection plan. Prices change, so check the live table.

Do sermorelin tablets need a prescription?

A licensed telehealth program has a clinician review you before prescribing; System Labs says its therapies may be compounded by a state-licensed pharmacy. Any seller offering sermorelin with no clinician review is not operating as a licensed prescription program.

Bottom line

Injection is the only sermorelin form with human evidence behind it; tablets and sprays are unproven. To compare licensed programs by price, see the cost page or our best peptide programs.
